Acid Play has grown into one of the more reliable free gaming websites around. It offers more than 860 free game
downloads. The site's home page lists the 10 latest games that have
been added to the site along with a one sentance description, genre and
size information. All games listed on AcidPlay.com are reviewed and
given a percentage rating. The reviews and ratings are a great guide on
determining the quality of the free game.
AllGamesAtoZ.com is a newer site that offers fewer than 100 freeware games. Most of the games can be found on other freeware game sites as well.
TheGameHippo.com has just been launched but looks very promising, however due to the issue surrounding the original GameHippo site and it's last owner there are only 100 or so games up on the site. With that said the premise behind the site remains the same all freeware, all the time. They do not mix freeware, shareware, and demos which can always make if harder to find the truly free games.
The
games listed on Acid Play include a fair amount of console style arcade
games such as Super Mario and Sonic games but they do offer a wide
variety of action, simulation and role playing games. Advertisement is
not over done and there are no annoying popups from AcidPlay.com.

Searching - 4/5 : Searching for games on Acid Play is quite easy. Users can search by title in the Google search or browse by Top Rated, Most Popular, or by Game Genre. One thing about searching by Genre, the games are not listed in any particular order. It's definately not alphabetical but could possibly be listed by most popular.
Downloading - 5/5 : Once
you've found the game you're searching for the individual game pages
provide the download links. Download speeds on Acif-Play are excellent,
there are still a few games not hosted on the site but this seems to be
a minority. Broken links are not a problem on Acid-Play as the site is
continually updated on a regular basis.

Caiman.us is a purely freeware game website, you won't find any demos or shareware games here. It boasts
an
impressive 4,630 games (3,395 unique games) and is one of the most
frequently updated freeware gaming websites I've seen. The home page
lists all freeware games by genre/type followed by a freeware "Game of
the Day" followed by the most recent additions which are usually
updated on a daily basis. Each individual game page includes a rating,
game specs, screenshots and a brief description.
Searching : 2/5 : Searching
on Caiman.us is not one of it's strong points. There is not traditional
text or advanced search. Browsing different games on the site is done
using either the left hand or center navigation that lists more that 50
game types/genres. Games are listed in alphabetical order (15 games per
page) and includes game title, rating, and file size.
Downloading : 4/5 :
Most of the freeware games listed on Caiman.us are either hosted there
or provide a direct link to developer/publisher's download. This
usually makes for only 1-2 clicks once you get to a game page before
getting to the actual download. For games not hosted on Caiman.us there
are usually 2-3 download mirror links provided.
Fullgames.sk
lists a decent number of free computer games both downloadable freeware
and free online game but they are also listed along with other retail
game assets such as demos and trailers.

games listed on Game Hippo have been installed, played and reviewed by
the GameHippo Staff. On top of free game reviews, each listing contains
basic information that tells you whether the game is single player,
multiplayer, contains adware, child-safe and more.
Searching - 5/5 :
Searching GameHippo is a breeze with a standard title search and an
advanced search on top of browsing games by category/genre. The
response time of searching on GameHippo is also very good, with fast
response time and no annoying pop-ups or advertisements.
Downloading - 4/5 :
Downloading a game listed on TheGameHippo has been made much easier.
The download links are no longer hidden in at the bottom of the review
in indistinguishable text. Now each game page features an orange
download button front and center, directly under the game title.
Home of the Underdogs
The original Home of the Underdogs site is no longer online, however
there are two seperate revival sites underway, one that is trying to
recreate the original look and feel while the other is going with a
slight redesign.

Quality of Site - 5/5 :
Home of the Underdogs is a freeware/abandonware site that offers a vast
number of titles for download. It is a virtual gold mine for many
classic out of print games and has grown to a library of over 5,000
games. HOTU is dedicated to the preservation of underrated PC ganes and
while the vast majority of the games are abandonware if it again
becomes available for sale, or if the copyright holder requests, it
will remove the download files. In addition to abandonware, Home of the
Underdogs does list some freeware and shareware games.
Searching - 4/5 :
Games on Home of the Underdogs can be searched by a number of very
helpful options. You can search for games by theme, year released or
alphbetical. It also allows for title, companion and designer text
searches.
Downloading - 2/5 :
As with most free sites, bandwidth is at a premium on HOTU. You will
have to click through two screens and go through some simple
verification to download. Overall download speeds are not very fast but
the file size of most games are relatively small so it is not much of
an issue.
MegaGames
: has more info on retail game assets such as cheats, demos, and
patches but it does have an excellent free computer game section that
is definately worth a look. Most games are hosted on MegaGames and/or
provide links/info to the offical game sites.
Noodan :
had loads of freeware games and free online games. Navigation could be
better but once you get use to the site it's fairly easy to see what's
new and there is a text search available
Planet Freeplay
is a great source for finding quality freeware games by offering easy
to use navigation and more than 1500 downloadable freeware and online
games. Listed front and center of the Planet Freeplay home page are the
latest freeware titles that have been added to the site. These listings
provide the game title, a small preview screenshot and a short
description. The left column navigation offers a master list of games,
genre lists, podcasts, interviews and a submit feature which allows for
the submission of new freeware games for listing.

Searching for games on Planet Freeplay is quite simple but does lack
some advanced search features. There is a basic text search feature
that returns good results but having advanced seach functions to allow
for searching by genre, theme, etc... The left hand navigation does
provide links to genre pages but there is no other filter type option.
Downloading : 2.5 / 5:
Planet Freeplay does not host any of the games it lists, rather it
provides download links to other hosting sites. Expect to go through
4-5 clicks before you're able to actually download the game. There were
a few dead links but overall not too bad (unfortunately any
GameHippo.com link will no longer work). Downloading on Plant Freeplay
is probably the weakest area but we should still feel fortunate that
sites like these exist and putting up with a few extra clicks isn't too
much to ask.
